Working on US timefrom Moldova

Brokers and carriers live by American clocks, and the dispatcher lives with them. It is not a detail but the main condition of the profession: let's see how many hours it really is, when the day starts and how the course is built around it.

The time difference

Chișinău is 7 hours ahead of the US East Coast for almost the whole year: both the US and Moldova use daylight saving time, so the gap holds. Only for a couple of weeks in spring and autumn, when the switches do not coincide, does the difference become 6 hours.

The central states are one hour further, the mountain states two, the Pacific coast three. Most freight and most brokers work on Eastern and Central time, so 7–8 hours is the reference.

What a dispatcher's day looks like in Chișinău

Brokers post loads and answer calls in their morning. Translated into local time:

01

14:00–15:00 — the boards open, fresh loads appear, the first calls start.

02

15:00–20:00 — the main window: negotiating rates, booking, paperwork. This is where the income is decided.

03

20:00–00:00 — tracking trips, driver statuses, lining up tomorrow's loads; fewer calls, no less responsibility.

04

After midnight — quiet; only those running trucks on the West Coast work at night.

The morning is free. A plus for people with children or studies, a minus for those used to finishing the day at six.

How it fits together

In the first weeks after the course dispatchers usually run one truck and do not sit at the screen for twelve hours: the load grows with the number of trucks. But the rule “be reachable when the broker calls” applies from day one — it is what separates a dispatcher who is trusted with a truck from one who is not.

It is worth explaining the schedule to your family in advance: dinner will be later, the evening is taken, but the morning is yours.

Why our classes are in the evening and on Saturday

The academy's schedule is built for people who still have a regular job: the online group meets Thursdays at 19:00, the in-person group in Chișinău meets Saturdays at 16:00. After the course the same schedule becomes the dispatcher's working window — you get used to it ahead of time.

02Questions on the topic

Not if your trucks run in the eastern and central US: brokers there start their day when it is already lunchtime in Chișinău. The morning is for paperwork and planning, not for calls.

Trucks run on weekends too, but the freight market is noticeably quieter on Saturday and Sunday. A dispatcher usually keeps in touch with drivers and closes paperwork, while the real load search happens on weekdays.

At the start, with one truck — sometimes, if your main job ends by 15:00. Over time it becomes a full-time job and combining stops being possible — plan the transition in advance.
